The Green Philippines Islands of Sustainability project team held a workshop on energy analysis, hazardous materials and waste management last November 23-24, 2011 at Berjaya Hotel in Makati City.
The workshop is the third in a series of technical training for the second phase of the project. Workshop 1 covered Cleaner Production, while Workshop 2 featured Team-building and Material Flow Analysis.
The workshop started with the welcome message of the Project Coordinator, Ms. Juvy Perez who gave the participants the overview on the topic contents for the day. Participants were also asked to share the progress of their activities like the initial site visit. Ecological Purchasing was the first session conducted by Joshua Rey Albarina which gave the companies understanding on the different international and local eco-labels. It was followed by the discussion on Hazardous Materials and an exercise about Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) by Ms. Helen Joyce Basco. Waste Management was presented by Mariefe Kim. The afternoon was focused on the main topic of the workshop which is Corporate Energy Analysis. Rolando Sumabat made a precise presentation on energy that all participants even from the non- technical background can understand. The full appreciation of the energy analysis was strengthen through the exercise on water heating using conventional devices.
It was again a fun-learning experience. The GPIoS team shared fruitful knowledge that participating companies can immediately apply on their shop floor.
